People start running for many reasons – fitness, weight loss, qualifying for Boston or in cases of Ryan Light, to completely change your life. Read Ryan’s take on his journey in finding running,
“I started to run after a very stressful time in my life. I suffered most of my life with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), panic, and anxiety. I tried everything from diets, vitamins, and conventional medicines – nothing worked. A friend of mine in his late 30’s that also suffered from some of the same types of alignment I did started running. At first I had thought he was crazy, and thought I could never do such a thing. After a while, however, I did see some changes in him and thought to myself, ‘huh, maybe this running thing could help me with my issues as well.’ Meanwhile another friend of mine also in his late 30’s started to run as well. One weekend he asked me to ride along on my bike for his 18miler, which I did, and after seeing him accomplish such a feat, and how he looked and felt I made up my mind I was going to try this running thing out. And I’m glad I did. Running saved my life – literally, I was at the bottom with my OCD, panic, and anxiety. Running gave me a new found adventure, a goal, an escape so to say. It’s been three years since I took my first run…OK Jog and I haven’t looked back. Currently I have run over 20 Half Marathons, One Full Marathon, and countless amounts of 5 & 10Ks”.
